name changed to Roberts

My father's family evidently emigrated to somewhere in the French-Quebec area. They had a french name that no one seemed to be able to spell right so they changed it to Roberts.

The name sounded (according to my father) like "du Scheno". The du was from a form of recognition of sub-royalty from what I understand. Like the people in my families past - I have no idea how to spell the French name correctly.

I found the last name of Duchesneau on your web site. This is one of the closest I've come so far to what could be the correct spelling of my families name.

Have any of you found any record of a name change from Duchesneau (or similar name) to Roberts?

Polly Roberts Barnes
