Duchesne variations Louisiana, NY, NJ

My cousin and I are trying to trace our family name of Donshea back to its original French name. Family stories handed down to us indicate that the name was definately French.

The Donshea family resided in New York City and Jersey City during the mid to late 1800s and in New Orleans, LA in the early to mid 1800s.

We have located a Dunoucher in New Orleans on the 1820 census as well as the Duchesne families that lived in the city prior to and after that time.

My question is - during your research of the Duchesne name, have you come across and name variations on Duchesne? Some of which may be Dunoucher, Desha, Donsea, Donshea.

Thank you for your time. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Marion Scherer
