My 3 great grand-mother Fotheringham Duddingston [known as Fanny] (nee Mitchell/Mitchel) Shiels/Shields was baptised by the Rev Spence Oliphant on 10/11/1786 at Lower Largo, Fife, Scotland. Fanny was born on 2/11/1786
Fanny was the last of 9 children - John, Susan/Susanna, Helen, Janet and 4 unnamed - and her parents were Henry Mitchell/Mitchel c1740, Fife a Tailor in Largo, Fife and Janet Duncan c1746 Fife.
I have in my notes that Spence Oliphant was the son of Mitchell Oliphant a Labourer and Jean Duncan - Mitchell's parents were John Oliphant and Margaret Lyall.
My fellow Shiels/Mitchell researchers and I were wondering if the Mitchell/Shiels families were related somehow to the Oliphant/Duddingston families or where they just good friends?
