Hi Kay

No my George was born December 1856 Dartford, Kent, Father Richard, Born 1825 Erith, Kent. Died in the Cancer Hospital Fulham Road, Middlesex 7th March 1886 ( I believe this to be the Royal Marsden Hospital which is the most famous cancer hospital in U.K.) Mother Martha (maiden name Best born Stone Kent 1825) They were married Milton - by - Gravesend, Holy Trinity Church 26th January 1848 There was 1 sister Ellen born 1855 Married a Priestland in 1875, and 3 Brothers James born 1850 (the 1881 census gives George & Alice living at 42 Pier Road, Erith, Kent, occupied as a Bootmaker employing 2 men & boy. The boy was his brother - in - law Charles G. Kingston. James lived at 46 Pier Road, Erith, occupation Draper Stationer with his wife Emily E. Dudney son Herbert J. Dudney and father - in - law Joseph Horndew.) Alfred John Dudney born 18th January 1852, Frederick William Dudney born 1859. These children were born in Erith.

There seems to be 2 distinct Dudney family groups one from Kent and the other from Sussex. This is why I am interested in Huguenot connection the Huguenots arrived from France in the 16th century as refugees generally in Sussex and Kent. The 66 Dudney's living now in England for the most part live in the south eastern part of England. So I believe this to be one family.

Did the Dudney's in America arrive from England or from France?

One note of interest personally, about Sussex, 20 odd years ago I was in a pub in Seaford, Sussex, and there was an old photograph of Seaford on the wall, and in it was an advertising hoarding with the name Dudney on it I was very excited because I had never seen the name Dudney except my own family anywhere else before.
