I have found an actual date of marriage on my Charlotte H. DUDNEY that married Hartwell Marion MATLOCK !!!!! I always knew they married in 1869. This I found thru a letter written in June 1869 from Caleb Swindle in Plain Dealing, La. to his dau. Mollie Swindle Holloway in Luella, Tx. Grayson County. Mollie Swindle Holloway had saved the leter from her father in the family bible all these years! That in itself is amazing!! In the letter he tells her of the news from "back home" which was "Red Land" in Bossier Par. La. He tell her of the young couples who married that year (1869) and he mentions Marion Matlock marrying Miss DUDNEY. So I knew the year was 1869 and it was before 21st. June 1869 when the letter was written. Now last week I find that Hartwel Marion Matlock's sister, Mary Jane Matlock Love, had a bible that she wrote births, deaths, and marriages in. In this bible she recorded some of her 12 siblings marriages. It was just wonderful seeing that she had written "Hartwell Marion Matlock and his wife, Sharlot DUDNEY was married January 7, 1869."
Mary Jane Matlock Love died just short of her 100th. birthday in 1944. All I can say is "God Bless you Mary Jane !!" and to all you researchers...HAVE HOPE !! AND record those names and dates in your family bible !!
