John: Don't get me wrong here. Mr. DUDNEY did a wonderful book, and the photos are beautiful !!
There has been much new info ome to light in the last 19yrs. since he did the book (1981), and more people are researching now than ever before, especially with the wonderful websites on the internet, which we did not have back in 1981.
The DT book says that Abraham DUDNEY married Charlotte HORTON when it was "Arthur".It is easy to get confused when there are so many of the same first name. So far there are 9 'Abraham's' that I have listed!
The history of Stewart Co. Georgia also has it wrong so I believe this is where the wrong info was first recorded. My Charlotte Horton DUDNEY lived in Lumpkin, Ga. Stewart County till the old age of 97 when she died in 1896. Her son, John DUDNEY (killed in Civil War) was born 1835 but listed in book as having children in 1845. The Bossier Parish Louisiana DUDNEY's are all wrong.
I am not slamming Mr. Dudney...he did a fantastic job with the book and gave many people incentive to track down their roots and that in itself is what it is all about!
Research ws HARD 19 yrs. ago, all by mail & travel, been there, done that and this is so much easier!! The GenForum is by far the most helpful website as I have made many contacts here.
