In 1475 a Dutch Nobleman of Friesland area of Holand by the name of Van Duser
- and the name was changed to Van Dirk or Doerk. We (you and I) have a crest & everything.
In the early 17th Century they moved to the OstFriesland area of Prussia due to
the persecution of Mennonites. Catherine the Great of Russia in 1766 offered the Mennonites Religeous Liberty.Johann was born in 1798 in the area then Russia.
The Cornelius, John's (Johann's) Father with the rest of the Family (Cornelius, Elizabeth Franzen, children - Johann (granddpa), Helena, Elizabeth, Sara, Anna, and Heinrich)arrived in New York Harbor on June 15, 1880 and went through Ellis Island - the other children were born in this country. My grandfather John Duerksen was genreration 5 of the "Descendants of Kornelius Duerksen" Family Tree but they have his wife Rosalia (my Grandmother) mistakenly listed as Rosa. Also his children (as well as some of the other generation 5 offspring) are not listed in that tree.
