Thank you for your reply on this family. I have been looking for information and descendants of this family in hopes of finding more about the ancestors of Dugan's 3rd wife, Sarah Margaret Williams. Sarah was a sister of my gggrandfather, John Jefferson Williams. I know thier father was John Jesse Williams and mother was Mary Jane Brown. John Jesse Williams was the son of a William Williams who died in Washington Co., MO in October of 1868.

I would like to know who Mary Jane Brown's family is. She married Williams in Potosi, MO on Nov 16th 1843. The family is found in Washington Co., MO in the 1850 census. They had three children: John Jefferson, Sarah Margaret and Martha Ann, all born in MO. John Jesse then died after 1852 and Mary Jane arrived in Bond County before July 13, 1855 when she married Andrew J. Stout. John Jefferson and Sarah Margaret are found living with thier grandfather in Liberty Twp., Washington Co., MO in 1860. I am assuming that Martha Ann (would be 8yrs old in 1860) would be with Mary Jane and Andrew Stout, however I cannot find any reference to the family on the 1860 census.

On January 25, 1864 Mary Jane Brown married for the third time to Robert Duncan. He died in 1868. She is found widowed on the 1870 census in Okaw Twp., Bond Co., IL.

Why would a widowed mother leave MO in the 1850's and go to IL if she did not have family there??? Who is Mary Jane Brown's family??
