Shirley, the name is French-"of the gard" from what i have researched. I wish you could find out where your relative's family came from in US. I am trying to find the descendants of Charlie Dugard---son of Wm.H. and Julia McGuire Dugard. In 1900 they were in GA, surely some of them are still around. Mary Jane
