Good Morning,

Are you still looking for Dugas? Knowing where to look is half the battle. You probably have this information, but I found it interesting and others may too.

Jean Baptiste Dugas (Eloy Duga & Susanne Bonin - of this parish) b. 24 July 1802, bt. 10 Oct. 1802. Pats: Charles Duga & Margurite Broussard of Acadia; Mats: Jean Louis Bonin of Mobile & Marguerite Prince - of Maryland; Spons: Jean Baptiste Bonin & Marie Louise Bonin. Fr. Michel Bernard Barriere (SM Ch.: v. 5, #515) Source: Southwest Louisiana Records by Rev. Donald J. Hebert, V. 1-B, page 254

Eloy Dugas of this Post (Charles & Marguerite Broussard) m. contract dated 14 Oct. 1795 (date is actually written by combining French and Spanish "mil sept cent nonante cing" - written by the Commandant who was Spanish) Suzanne Bonain, native of this Post (dec. Jean Louis & Marguerite Prince) Wits: Benoit St. Clair, Louis DeBlanc, Francisco Caso Y Luengo (SM Ct. Hse.: OA-Vol. 16, #130)

Eloy Dugas (Charles & Marguerite Broussard - natifs de L'Acadie au Port Royal) m. 3 Nov. 1795 "apres midi" (in the afternoon) Suzanne Bonin (dec'd. Jean Louis - de la Mobile & Marguerite Prince - du Mariland), Wits: Joseph Bonin -"oncle de l'epouse" (bride's uncle), Louis Duga - "frere de l'epoux" (groom's brother) Louis Bonin - "frere de l'epoux" (bride's brother) Honore Carlin. Fr. Michel Berard Barriere (SM Ch.: v. 4, #121) Hebert, V. 1-A, p. 272

SM Ch.: St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, St. Martinville, Louisiana

Did your Dugas family remain in Southwest Louisiana? If so, you may find them in Fr. Hebert's "Southwest Louisiana Records". Fr. Hebert published 41 volumes, beginning in 1750 and ending in 1909.
