1685 Port Royal Census - page 14

Note: Winston De Ville is a well-known author. Many of his publications are in the Birmingham Library.

Germain Doucet, s/o Pierre Doucet dit LaVerdure & an Indian Native, was born in Port Royal in 1641 and was brought by his father to Quebec in 1655 where he lived until he was nineteen years old.

He returned to Port Royal in 1660 and was married in 1664 to Marguerite Landry. He is listed in the Acadian census of 1671, 1686, and 1693.

There is a separate descent of marriage going back to Indian. It can be found in Nova Scotia at Chapel near Cape Breton.

In 1671 Germain is registered as a laborer (meaning farmer) at age 30, with his wife, age 24, three children, Charles 6, Bernard 4, Laurent 3, eleven horned cattle, seven sheep, three arpents of cultivated land.

The census of 1693 shows Germain Doucet, age 50, wife Marie Landry, age 44, three children, Jacques 22, Claude 18, Pierre 8, eight horned cattle, 12 bull or oxen, 10 pigs, 18 arpents of cultivated land.

In the census of 1699, his family is listed as Marie Landry, widow of Germain Doucet, Pierre 15, Marie 4, Jean 2, eight cows, 12 oxen or bulls, 20 arpents of cultivated land. The above information was obtained from Robert Doucette, P. O. Box 386, E. Falmouth, Mass 02536 in 1995

Marguerite and Marie Landry were sisters. Per Bona Arsenault, Vol. 1, pp. 385 & 386. Children's info per Bono Arsenault, Vol. 1.

Hope this helps.
