How do you feel about things Slovak?

1930 census from Struthers, Mahoning Co., OH:

Mike Dugas 64, born in Czechoslovakia (speaks Slovak), immigrated 1890, naturalized citizen
Barbara 54, born in Czechoslovakia (speaks Slovak), immigrated 1891, naturalized citizen
Mike Jr 34, born in OH (son)
Katherine 29, born in PA (daughter in law)
Robert 9 (grandson)
Margaret 3 (grandson)
Michael III 1-5/12 (grandson)
Mary J. 4/12 (granddaughter)
Cyril 22 (son)
Emil 20 (son)

1900 census Lowellville, Mahoning Co., OH:

Mike Dugas, born in 1869 in Austria, immigrated 1889
Barbadues, age unknown, born in Austria, immigrated 1890
Julia, born Sept 1889 in Austria, immigrated 1890
Stephen, born July 1892 in OH
Mike, born Dec 1896 in OH
Jennie, born May 1898 in OH
Mary, born Feb 1900

Social Security Death Index: Michael E. Dugas born 1897, died Jan 2, 1965, last resided Mahoning Co., OH. Michael Eugene Dugas' World War II draft card shows he was born Dec 10, 1896 in Lowellville, OH.

Some of these records you can look at for free at labs.familysearch.org and Ancestry.com. For those you cannot see for free I suggest checking with your local libraries to see if they have Ancestry or Heritage Quest.

The death certificate for Steve Dugas 1892-1911 shows his parents as Mike Dugas and Barberia Gergelei

The death certificate for another Stephen Dugas 1863-1942, who lived in Mahoning County and may be a relative, shows his father as Michael Dugas and Mary Bobak. He was born in Maly Nilcik Spisska Zuoa, Slovakia.

The death certificate for Barbara Dugas 1873-1944 shows her father as John Gergei, but the mother's name is not listed. I could not determine when the elder Michael Dugas. It was after Barbara since she was married at the time of her death.

You can look at the death certificates for free at: http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html?datestamp=1195390820093#p=collectionDetails;c=1307272

You might try the Mahoning Valley Historical Society: http://www.mahoninghistory.org/index.htm
and the Slovak Heritage & Folklore Society: http://feefhs.org/slovak/frgshfsi.html to see if they can help you especially in finding the elder Michael's death date. Since he was a naturalized citizen, his papers should be have when and where he arrived and possibly where he came from. Obituaries should prove helpful.
