Martin Dugas was born in 1656 in Port Royal, Acadia, and was the son of Abraham Dugas and Marguerite Doucet. He married Marguerite Petitpas about 1676 in Port Royal. Marguerite was the daughter of Claude Petitpas and Catherine Bugaret. According to a 1678 Census that my cousin, Lloyd Bellefuille looked at, they had 12 acres of land, 16 head of cattle, one gun, and one son. Martin died in 1679, and Marguerite was remarried to Claude Landry.
According to my cousin Lloyd's research, it states that Abraham Dugas was born in 1616 in Toulouse, France. It doesn't say how he arrived in Port Royal, Acadia in 1640. It does state that he married Marguerite Louise Doucet in 1647. She was the daughter of Germain Doucet dit la Verdue. Their children are Marie born and died 1648, Marie born 1650 and married Charles Melanson in 1663 in Port Royal. She died 07/08/1737 in Port Royal;Claude Dugas, who was born 1752, and married Francoise Bourgeois and Marguerite Borg; Anne Dugas; Martin Dugas; Marguerite Dugas, who married another grandfather of mine, Pierre Arsenault; Abraham Dugas; Madeline Dugas; and Marie Jean Dugas. My cousin worked very hard on this research, but there are quite a few holes in his research, because of course, we didn't have the technology back then that we have today. He did quite a bit of traveling. Please help me with verifying all of this information. Thank you.
