Looking for GREENE/POLHILL/DUGGINS connections
I am trying to establish the place of birth of my ggg-Grandfather, David Polhill GREENE.
According to his Death Certificate - issued in Somers Town, St. Pancras, Middx. – he died in 1854 at the age of 70 years, giving his year of birth as +/- 1784 . The Certificate gives his occupation as ‘Verger of Somers Chapel’.
David married his first wife, Anne NICHOLLS, in 1806 at St. Pancras Church. They had at least six children, all of whom were baptised at the same church.
I have checked the 1841 Census for David and his second wife, Jane WATKINS (whom he married in 1833), at Westbourne Street, Paddington the address given on the Marriage Certificate of one of his sons (married in 1839). Unfortunately, there was no trace of the family there in 1841.
I am hoping that someone with a POLHILL connection may be able to throw some light on this mystery. POLHILL is a name that has cropped up from time to time in my research.
I am aware of a William Lancaster Polhill GREENE who was christened on 12th April 1840 and who was married on 29th June 1869 to Margaret DUGGINS at Spitalfields Christ Church, London. William’s Father was David Henry GREENE and his Mother was Eleanor (Formerly ?LANCASTER)
I also have the Birth Certificate of Alfred Polhill GREENE who was born 27th January 1881 and died in 1970. Alfred’s Father was Alfred Charles GREENE and his Mother was Frances Elizabeth (formerly BOOTH).
I am reasonably sure that both of these people are connected with my family but I am not quite sure how! If anyone can throw any light on this mystery, I would be most grateful for any information that can be offered.
