Little did you know that we all have a cousin Terry Duggins age 41 in Hilo, Hawaii.
He responded to our contact with him and said "I live near Keauu Hawaii on the Big Island. In the puna district. I also have lived here for 14 years. I lived in Ventura California for a long time. And miss it there. BUT I try to go every summer to California to play at the folk festivals." This meaning that he is Terry Duggins "A Mountain Dulcimer Player" playing the music of our Duggins clan ancestors and our living story telling musical historian. Do you all realize the treasure we found and we are not even pirates:)).
This is how we found the connection:
Stephen Duggins Sr. is Terry’s 3rd great grandfather and my 4th great grandfather married to Mariah Grayham being our common line.
2 of their sons are Stephen Jr. & Carter Duggins.
Stephen Jr. is my 3rd great grandfather.
Carter Duggins is Terry Duggins 2nd great grandfather.
Here is how the ancestor line of us both run for you to compute the connection to you individually:
1. TERRY8 DUGGINS (JIM ALFERD7, JOHN HENRY6, EDWIN5, CARTER4, STEPHEN SR.3, ALEXANDER2, ELLICK E.1). Terry Lee Duggins & twin sister Sherrie Lyn Duggins were born Jan 18 1963. Sherrie Lyn has a son Micheal Duggins-Ingram age 14. Brother Jimmy Steve Duggins born Jan 6 1958. Jimmy married Meleah Leeper, now divorced, and they have 3 children: Jimmy Joe Duggins(deceased) at age 20 in 1997. Living brother Chad Duggins age now 21 and his little sister Kathy Duggins age 14 all living in California. Father of Terry & siblings is Jim Alferd Duggins, who lives in CA, born September 1 1937 and mother is Alice Lorraine Nelson, who lives in Hawaii, born June 14, 1941.
Notes for TERRY DUGGINS:
Terry lives in Hawaii and plays the Dulcimer Zither guitar and plays and sings to the Duggins historical Ozark and Appalachian fiddle tune music.
Comments from Terry:
"I do play Irish traditional Jigs and Ballads. And plan on doing a CD on just traditional Irish. The Coleman's March CD is a tribute album to Jean Ritchie. And the song The Coleman's March is an Irish March and comes from around the time of 1750. Maybe it was played in Cork County where our Ellick came from.
If you looked in the insert of the CD you'll see a picture of Jean and I playing at Calabasa's Sokes University in California. Any dulcimer player would give their right arm to play with her. She is an American Icon. And a couple of years ago she asked me to tour with her. How lucky was I. Her ancestry is English, Irish, and Scottish. And the songs she sings are songs that come from Britain and are Americanized and that is the end result of ,'American Folk Music." If you want to mention in my Genealogy note, you can mention that I have played with Jean Ritchie in concerts and is a very good friend of hers. And he is a recording artist with many awards and music nominations. With many CD's to his credit. And I play the Ozark Dulcimore. Better known as an Appalachian dulcimer.
I also play with Jean Ritchie at Universities and I play at folk festivals across the nation and my music is played on national and international radio. Especially NPR radio. National Public Radio."
Gerald (Gary) G. Duggins
1. GERALD (GARY) G.9 DUGGINS (BENJAMIN WARREN JR.8, BENJAMIN WARREN7, MACKLIN CAGER6, ALEXANDER5, STEPHEN JR.4, STEPHEN SR.3, ALEXANDER2, ELLICK E.1) was born October 17, 1948. He married KAREN J. BRANDT January 19, 1975, who is the daughter of HARRY E. & CLEO B. A.-BRANDT. She was born August 25, 1948.
Our cousin Terry Duggins has offered in great hospitality our Duggins clan music renditions from his CD collections at a reduced personal Duggins price rate:
"Aloha Gary and Karen, the reason I want the Duggins Clan to use my address when ordering CD's is because I can give them the Duggins discount:
P.O. Box 5813 Hilo HI 96720-8813
THE CD WILL ONLY COST THEM $11.50 shipping included IF THEY GO THROUGH THE RECORD COMPANY IT WILL COST 15.00 plus shipping $1.50
so that’s why the address change, instead of the web site.
Thank you for your support~Terry
Terry Duggins and the Zither Band
come in out of the rain...’"
Well we hope you enjoy the music, we sure did, and we are wanting to add all of the history to our collection and hope that you do too. It is so nice to see that the Duggins clan have a historian to bring forth the past for us and our children as well as theirs. The Native American Indians have much history in their ancestry chants and history music, but nothing like this have we seen from Ireland to the United States of America the bringing forth of the Duggins Clan from then to now. You have all been waiting for something phenomenal and now here it is.
Enjoy everyone, it is like a book of historical family history given in musical rendition of our Duggins Clan. Please click on Terry’s web site and see his music selections and his own history before we found him and likewise he found us. A new cousin, yet very old background and family roots and ties.
Also please see posting "Back of Old Picture" down the postings quite a bit for more of the history.
Your Cousins Gary & Karen Duggins
