My great-grandfather was Dominic Joseph Duignan, christened Feb. 1 1874 in Breedogue and Ballinameen parish in County Roscommon. He came to the U.S. before 1905, settled in East St. Louis, Illinois. I believe Dominic's parents were Charles Duignan and Brigida Cummins. He also had a sister, Maria, who we believe became a nun and lived the rest of her life in London. Incidentally, the story is that Dominic's employer in America spelled his last name "Degnan". He was afraid to correct the mistake and we've been Degnans ever since. If anyone can help me find information going further back than Charles and Brigida, that would be greatly appreciated!
