lynne - i have compiled some research on DIGNAN of Elphin, near Strokestown in Co. Roscommon. Family understanding is that DIGNAN in ireland began as O'Duignan. Records I have begin with JOHN, married to HONORA CLANCY, had several children including a daughter (also called HONORA) and a son (PATRICK) who emmigrated to Boston in the US. Patrick lived in Wakefield, Massachusetts, married ELLEN GIBBONS, worked in the rattan factory there (Heywood Wakefield Furniture Factory -- made wicker furniture) and had a raft of kids in the 1890s and early 1900s.
