Does anyone know who this John M. Duke, in the 1820 Conecuh Co., AL census would be? It seems unlikely that he would be the son of Jesse Duke of Lancaster Co., SC, although he would be in the same general age category. In this 1820 AL census, he is almost "next door" to James Rabb Mobley of Fairfield Co., SC, and that makes me think there is a connection. Also, the 1782 will of Edward Mobberly/Mobley of Camden/Fairfield, (grandfather of the afsd James R. Mobley) was read and published at the house of Thomas Duke of the same county. Two more closely related Mobley's from Fairfield SC were also in that same 1820 Conecuh AL census: Daniel D. Mobley, and cousin Levi T. Mobley, one of whom, I believe, was the father of James R. Mobley. I am a descendant of Jesse Duke, s/o Robt. of Lancaster Co., SC, and also have Mobley's (and their allies, the Hill's) on both sides of my father's family. So far I have been unable to completely put all my Mobley, Duke, and Hill families together satisfactorily. Otis Fuller Notify Administrator about this message?
