I’m trying to place Merritt DUKE, born in NC about 1784, within the correct household. Can you help me narrow my list of prospects? The following are the Duke heads of household in Wake and the surrounding counties in the 1800 census, who had male household members in the right age ranges: HEAD COUNTY FWM John Duke Cumberland 16—25 (2) Andrew Duke Currituck 1 free mulatto, sex and age not given Ann Duke Franklin 10—15 (1) 16—25 (3) Daniel Duke Gates 16—25 (1) John Duke Jr. Gates 10—15 (2) 16—25 (1) Harrel Duke Hillsborough, Granville 10—15 (1) John Duke Hillsborough, Orange 10—15 (1) Robert Duke Hillsborough, Orange 10—15 (1) William Duke Hillsborough, Orange 10—15 (2) 16—25 (1) Burwell Duke Halifax, Warren 10—15 (2) 16—25 (2) Green Duke Halifax, Warren 10—15 (1) 16—25 (1) Matthew Duke Halifax, Warren 10—15 (1) 16—25 (1) Simon Duke Halifax, Warren 16—25 (2) William Duke Halifax, Warren 16—25 (1) Most of these Dukes were in the 1790 North Carolina census. Merritt may have been Native American or of mixed race. Merritt married Winifred Brown in Wake County, NC, in 1802. He was in Alabama by 1826. He married Lucinda C. Williams Beard about 1830. I have information about his descendants. I'm trying to figure out who his parents were. Notify Administrator about this message?
