Here is a VERY interesting deed, found in Jasper Co., GA Deed Book 1: Page 175: Deed dated July 15, 1808, bet. GREEN R. DUKE of Chatham Co. & STEPHEN DUKE of Hancock Co., for sole use, int. & purpose of JOSEPH & MOSES DUKE, minors. 200 (...smudged) acres in 14. Dist. #144 waters of Murder Ck. Wit: JOHN HUDSON, ROBERT CARR, SARY (X) BROWNING Green R. (Robert), and Stephen Duke are sons of Jesse Duke, (my ancestor) son of Robert Duke, of Dry Creek, Lancaster Co., SC. I had thought that Joseph and Moses Duke were connected with the family of another, different Robert Duke, of Fairfield Co., SC, who lived and died in the same time period and location(s), and who also had a son, Jesse. What then, could this deed entry possibly mean? Otis Fuller Notify Administrator about this message?
