My maiden name was Dumpleton. Most of my family came from Bedfordshire. However the surname was always alternating between b and p. I beleive that in the late 1700s one of the clan moved north. A relative of mine is browsing the record offices between Oxford and Northants to see if we can go further back than 1700.
My great uncle and his cousin ended up in Nottingham although all traces seem to have disappeared now.
Regards
Anthea
