Hello Jesse
I was born a DumPleton and come from the families around Bedfordshire. In the early years when people couldn't read or write, the b & P were often interchangeable, depending on how the name sounded. In my tree I have both DumPletons & DumBletons,
There is a village called Dumbleton in Gloucestershire (UK) although it has not been proved that the family is descended from there. If you look at the IGI, you can see 16th century references to baptisms of Dumbletons from Gloucestershire. My theory is that they then spread through the counties of Oxford, Buckingham, Hertford and Bedford with a small spread up into Warwickshire.
My 6x great grandfather married in Buckinghamshire but here we are stuck as we can't find his family.
Regards
Anthea
