Looking for info & pictures of a Jacob Dumond. He was born in Licking County OH on or about 7 Oct 1837. Jacob married my Grt Grt Grandmother Malinda(Flake)High in Ross County OH on 11 Feb 1858. He was 9 years her junior. Jacob joined the union army on 11 Sep 1861 in Fayette County OH serving with the 54th OH Vol Inf, Company "I". Jacob was captured in 1864 near Atlanta and held prisoner until the end of the war with 6 months at Andersonville prison. He was mustered out of service in Jun 1865. He and Melinda had 2 sons, George Harlow Dumond in 1859 and Thomas Kelsy Dumond in 1861..both were born in OH. Jacob moved his family (which by the way consisted of two other children from Malindas marriage to my Grt Grt Grandfather Charles High) to Vermilion County IL sometime before 1870. He then lefty his family behind and headed west via Iowa where it is said he started another family (wife's name posibly Hannah Lang and a son born in Des Moines in 1872 named Lewis William Dumond)....then moved on to Walla Walla WA. Jacob died in Huntsville (near Walla Walla) on 7 Jul 1900. He had two other known sons....Franklin Carter Dumond and E.M. R. Dumond, palces and dates of birth unknown.
I have a copy of a letter written by a great granddaughter of his that supports the preceeding info. Plus I have a copy of the marriage license to Malinda High. I hope this info I have provided helps others with their search for Dumonds.
