Hi Ginette, I would love to buy a copy of your book. My GGGGF was Raphael Gueret dit Dumont, born about 1790, to a Michel Gueret dit Dumont (a popular name). Raphael married Elizabeth Sirois in Feb 1819. Their 1st born son was Michel, born Dec 1819. I have seen a record on the LDS site re: a Baptism of Michel Gueret dit Dumont, son of Raphael and Elizabeth and am quite sure this is my GGGF. When Michel was approx 18 (1837) he was hired by A. Coburn as a lumberjack. He made his way to central Maine, living first in Fairfield, then Bloomfield which was renamed Skowhegan. I believe this is why there is scant info on him in Canada: He settled here, married Anathalie Gilbert (Gilblair) here, raised children and finally died here in 1884. I also believe at least 2 of his siblings followed him to central Me: Peter and Edward. Edward married Rose ann Pooler (or Poulin) but was killed in Fredericksburg in the Civil war 1862. He still has descendants in Skowhegan. Peter is my mystery man. He was married in Somerset County, and the only other info I can find is a tombstone in Greenville that says Peter Demo. This grave is in a plot with 7 other persons, none of which even shared a last name. I don't know if this was a pauper's plot or if these people knew each other and just shared expenses. I suspect other siblings migrated to Maine (As I understand, many went back and forth depending on work and family situations) but have no hard proof. I, of course, have Michel's (Michael Demo) line and could get Edward's if you would like to include it in you book. I even have tintype pix of Michel and Anathalie (from the early 1880's) Please feel free to email me -demo at beeline-online.net I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Barb PS: You're English is great! I wish I could speak French! B. Notify Administrator about this message?
