I am researching James DUNFORD, born Kilmersdon, Somerset in 1870 emigrated to Rhodesia. He was recorded in Somerset in 1891 census and in the Dept. of Posts and Telegraphs in Fort Victoria, Rhodesia in 1899. When and how did he travel to Africa? I do not have a port of embarkation, a ship's name, or a date so am having great difficulties with the BT 27 passenger lists (outwards) at the PRO with prospect of several months of searching. I will be grateful for any info that will reduce the eight years search time - either at the English or African ends of the problem. It is said in his obituary (1932) that he was a member of the Rhodesia Horse Volunteers at either Enkeldoorn or Gwelo - can anyone confirm this? If this is so it would cut down on search time as the Rhodesia Horse was disbanded in mid-1897. In return can offer three generation pedigree for James in Somerset and also in Africa.
