Thanks so much for the information. The dates do seem to be approximately right. I just found some more of grandmother's writings. She had Edward Burch Dunford's birth date as 24 May 1822. So far, all the dates she has have matched what I've found elsewhere. She also said he had a brother Phillip Tennyson Dunford. I'd love to know where the Burch and Tennyson names came from.

You're right about the names of Edward's children (especially Ann Elizabeth and Sallie England) going along with the England connection.

Another interesting thing I noticed when I was going through Cumberland county information was a couple of middle names my grandmother gave to her children popped up - uncle Edward Baskerville Carter (I always thought she got the middle name from the Sherlock Holmes story - guess what, they're a family in Cumberland Co.) and aunt Helen Younger Carter (Younger's another name).

The William/William F./Philip connection sounds logical. Could the F stands for Frank? We'll have to keep digging.

Oh, and did I mention - I'm also a descendent of Thomas Carter IV who lived for a few years in - guess where - Cumberland Co! I'm beginning to feel like all roads lead back to Rome (or in this case Cumberland Co.)!
