Margie,I have recently come across the wills of William and Phillip Dunford who are listed in the 1790 and 1800 federal censuses of Edgecombe County, N. Carolina.William died in 1807 and accoeding to his will he had a son named James. This could be the father of yourJames.I believe the family scattered after the death of William. For the longest time I thought William and Phillip were brothers but have recently learned they were father and son.Phillip died around 1821 and his son John is my g-great grandfather.John sold his inheritance and migrated to Ala. and Miss.where he had children. Absley, John Turner (my great grandfather), Phillip Parker, James and William who were killed in the civil war after enlisting in the Confederate cavalry in Perry county Ark.
