Hi, You didn't include any dates, or approximate dates, in your query, so I went looking. From CA Dth Idx Online:

Charles Alvord Dungan, b 12 jul 1886; d 22 Feb 1942 Tehama Co, CA; 56 yrs old.

You can obtain a copy of his death certificate, which should show the names and birth locations of his parents, including his mother's maiden name.

I would look for Delmar Dungan on the 1900 census when Charles would be about 14 yrs old, and might still be living at home. Then follow them through 1910 and 1920 census records, too. If they stay in the same county, you might check the GenWeb site for that county. Some GenWeb counties are putting their cemteries online, and with a name like Delmar Dungan you might find him and his wife buried there. I would post a query on that site, also. (Be sure to include the dates for Charles, that will give others an idea of when Delmar might have been born.)

I would also look for Delmar Dungan on the new 56 CD set for the 1880 census. It includes an EVERYNAME index, which means you can search for wife, children, or anyone living the household. So it won't matter if Delmar is not head of his own household in 1880, and you might even find him living at home with his parents. That CD set is located in some Family History Centers, and available for the public to use. Happy Hunting.
