Irish Families: Dungan, Allen, Barry, Melville, Madigan

William Allen, Sr., b. perhaps in Schull, Cork County, Ireland. His mother, perhaps a Berry. His wife perhaps Mary Madigan. Some of their children: Wm. Allen, Jr. and Thomas. Thomas had a daughter Ellie (Elizabeth?) who married Richard Love and had a daughter, Mildred Love who once lived in San Diego, California.

William Allen, Jr., b. abt. 1822, in Ireland, perhaps in Goleen, Cork County.
His wife: Sarah Dungan, b. abt. 1847, whose mother was Elizabeth Melville.
Sarah had a brother Robert Dungan.

William and Sarah’s children were all born in Ireland. They were:

Robert Allen, b. 4/21/1865 in Altar, Kimoe, Co. Cork
Helena Allen, b. 4/12/1867
William Allen, b. 9/15/1869
John Henry Allen, b. 6/8/1871
Elizabeth Allen, b. 9/10/1873
Catherine Allen, b. 4/8/1876
Thomas Allen, b. abt. 1880
Sarah Allen, b. abt. 1885

Most of these children, and their father, emigrated to Erie, Pennsylvania, then many moved elsewhere. Their mother, Sarah, ran away from the family to Adelaide, Australia. She had a further child, Anna, who in Australia, married a Tilly, a child of theirs sang in the opera.

Catherine Allen was my grandmother. She died 4/19/1942, in Chicago, Illinois.
She was married to James John Mailey. Their children were:

Dorothy, Eleanor, Frederick, Catherine, Florence and Ruth (my mother), all of whom were raised in Chicago, Illiinois.
