I am often contacted by researchers and, in turn, contact others. I think that is a very good way to expand your database. The problem come in when a researcher then posts info on the living to a public forum. I try to get permission from the individuals I speak with and clarity their wishes: total masking of info OR okay to share with other researchers, but not in public OR total use and transparency. My earlier posting is more to point out that we are in an age of identity theft and stalking. Researchers have a responsibility to protect others, many of whom don't engage in geneology, but have been kind enough to cooperate with those of us who are hooked (:
