John MERRYMAN, Charles City Co., VA, 10 May 1638, patented 150 acres adjoining Weyanoke and land of Perce LENNON [Wm. & Mary Qtrly., 5:49]. That may be the John MERRYMAN [1] who transported to Virginia his wife Audrey by 1649 [GREER's Early VA Immigrants, p. 225].John MERRYMAN died in Virginia by 1680.Widow Audrey m. Edward CARTER in Lancaster Co., VA.
Lancaster Co. deed, 10 Nov. 1680, from Wm. & John MERRYMAN, sons of John, decd., & Edward CARTER & Audrie, his wife, widow of John MERRYMAN, to Lt. Col. Jno. CARTER & Capt. David FOX, for the use of the county to establish a town, 50 a. of a patent of 14 Nov. 1649, to sd. John MERRIMAN, decd. [VA Hist. Mag., 5:430].
Charles MERRYMAN [2] (ca. 1656, VA - 22 Dec. 1725, Balto. Co., MD) of Currotoman River, Lancaster Co., VA, wheelwright, was referred to in Baltimore Co., MD, in a deed of 30 Mar. 1682, when he purchased from Thomas & Hannah [BALL] EVEREST of Patapsco R., Balto., 300 acres, "East Humphreys," originally surveyed for Mary HUMPHREYS [IR:AM:176].
In March 1698/9, Capt. John FERRY, Back R., Balto. Co., designated friend Charles MERRYMAN to bring up the orphans of John BORING, whose widow FERRY had married.

Families, 1659 - 1759, says that John MERRYMAN was church warden of St. Mary's Parish, Lancaster Co., VA.He notes that there was also an Elizabeth, b. by 1652, mentioned in wills of Gyles TAVERNER, 1655, & John BONNY, 1666.Charles' dau. Eliz., who m1. Jacob COX, who d. 1 Nov. 1724, m2. 3 Sep. 1727, Samuel SMITH.
Charles MERRYMAN [3] m. by 24 Je. 1702, Jane, widow of Joseph PEAKE and daughter of Jane LONG, probably by Jane's second husband Maj. Thos. LONG.
Dutton LANE made his will in 1713, leaving part of "Hampton Court" to dau. Margaret.
