re:William Dunkelberger: born Mar 1825 near Cardington d 14 Feb 1904 in Marion (now Morrow) Co,OH. m(1)Mary Elizabeth Cupp (1835-1872). Census records indicate that William was not the son of Julia. In 1850 census, William was in Shawnee Twp., Fountain Co,IN. m(2)Lucy J. Standish d 14 Feb 1904. By birthdates, it appears William did not have children by Lucy. They lived in Ober, Starke Co,IN. Burial: Bass Lake
Williams children, all probably by 1st wife:
Sarah Marie, Elizabeth Ann, Nancy Jane, Henry Allen, William Riley, Daniel Elijah, John Pierce.
William's father was Peter Dunkelberger
b 21 Jun 1787 PA. Abt 1807,Peter m(1)possibly Eva. They may have had 3 or 4 children. Otherwise there is an unaccounted for John in 1830 census of Richland twp., Marion Co., OH, age 20-30 yrs which means he was born between 1800 & 1810. Since Peter was the only other Dunkelberger in Richland twp in 1830, it is assumed that John was Peter's son. Census shows he had 2 sons b 1810-1820. In the 1830 census, Peter was a widower. In 1840 census, he had a wife, assumed to be Julia Ann Cupp and had 3 children under 10. He m Julia Ann 28 Nov 1832. In the 1850 census, Julia is listed as 42 years old. Peter died about 1850 on his farm in Richland Twp where he is buried, in OH. In early 1860s,Julia Ann with most of her family, moved to a farm near Van Wert, OH. She died in Aug 1871 and was buried in Mohr Cem., Hoaglin Twp, Van Wert Co., OH.
Children of William:
John, Hannah, a dau., George, William, Sarah Marie, Nancy, Solomon, Lydia, Jacob.
(Some believe that George is also a son of William and his 1st wife.)
There is a picture in the Dunkelberger book of Julianna Cupp, wife of Peter Dunkelberger. This infor. excerpted from DUNKELBERGERS IN AMERICA 1728-1997 compiled & edited by Jacqueline Nein, p 16 (Peter)& p 32(Wm).
