This bit of info should be helpful. It was found in an article by Elaine D. Schwar in the Fall 1995 Journal of the Berks Co., PA Genealogy Society.
Johan, Johann, Hans, and Johannes are all forms of the name John. The first three forms were used as the first name when a male was to be called by his middle name. When a male was to be called John he was named Johannes; the name stood alone.
