I saw your exchange about the Dunkleys of Jamaica.

I am starting a Dunkley DNA surname group with FamilyTreeDNA.com. We have two tests so far. Only one is posted as of today, but the other should be posted in a day or two.

I descend from Oliver Dunkley who came to PA in 1688. A cousin and I have traced his descendants to the present day. Daughters were the rule, so very few of his descendants still bear his name and qualify to take the test. I myself am a daughter of a son of a daughter of a son of a daughter of a Dunkley so had to do a lot of work to find a fellow Oliver descendants with the last name today to take the test!

I would love to know if our line is related to other clans in America, England, Jamaica, Barbados, Australia, etc. There are Dunkleys now all over the world, but they may well have a common root. DNA test results give information as to how recent is a common ancestor.

Spelling doesn't count! Dunklin, Duncklee, Dunclea whatever. Oliver's descendants spell it two ways today, but census takers and county clerks took complete liberties.

Anyway, I wondered if you or other Dunckleys you know would like to participate. It involves a simple cheek swab so is totally painless. Ordering through the surname group and not direct results in a substantial discount to the test, so anyone who is interested should apply through the following link: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=M51386&special=True

I am the administrator for the surname -- that just means that I help people who are interested to get involved. I am not paid any commissions, nor were these first two tests provided to me at any discount whatsoever. But how great to be able to offer a discount to others to encourage them to join in. This is indeed a case where the more the merrier! I expect we will learn a lot about our family roots.

Anyone taking the test should have come by the surname Dunkley naturally, as far as they know. Women may take the test, but Dunkley must be their maiden name (of course!). I think it is going to be a lot of fun and absolutely fascinating!

Your cousin?
