My Grandmother, Violet May Smith nee Dunkley was born in Nash around 1885 and lived with her grandparents at Mount Pleasant. She believed until she was older that her grandparents were her parents and her Aunt Emily, she thought was her sister.

Later she was told that she was born out of wedlock and her mother, I believe, was a nurse in London. We never knew what happened to her mother after Violet's birth or her Christian name or if she married and had a family.

My Grandmother (Violet) married Aiden Smith who was killed in the First World War and she had one sone Cyril (my father).

She married a second time and had another son, Bertram.

She lived as a widow at The Cottage, Nash, (now known as Lacemaker's Cottage (my Grandmother made Buckinghamshire lace). This has always been a bit of a mystery to me. Please let me know if this helps.

Sheila (nee Smith)
