Dunlop Family Genealogy Forum
Well, we may have a hit. My records reflect a suspected relative, James Dunlop, born 1785 (Roscommon suspected) to a Mary (b. 1794). Children here in Canada include: (1) JOHN (nbd) who married Rebecca Burwell (b.1815) and had children Elizabeth (b.1843), John (b. 1845), Anne (b. 1848) and Sarah "Sally" (b. 1850); (2) GABRIEL (b. 1819) married Anne Patterson (b. 1821) and had children John (b.1849), Gabriel (b.1850), Ann (b.1852), William (b. 1856) and Sarah Jane (b. 1860); (3) JAMES (b.1822) who married a Mary (b.1821) and had children James (b.1846), William (b.1848), Mary (b.1850), Gabriel (b. 1852), unknown child (b.1854), Judith (b.1856) and Robert (b.1860); (4) WILLIAM (b. 1826) who married a Mary and had children Robert (b.1850), Margaret (b.1850), John (b.1852), William (b.1855) and Mary Jane (b.1860); and lastly (5) ROBERT (b.1830) who married a cousin, Mary Dunlop (b.1841) and had no children.
We are searching our family roots for Gabriel Dunlap who is known to have been in Canada by 1818. We believe Gabriel to be the brother of a James. Both were in the Richmond Military Settlement in Upper Canada by 1819. That location is now the Town of Richmond, outside Ottawa, in the Goulburn Township. Gabriel moved accross the Ottawa River to Old Chelsea, Quebec. Our records indicate James died, blind, in Richmond in 1825. For a source, check in the Ontario census. Many of James' family relocated farther north, up the Ottawa Valley, into the towns of Renfrew and Pembroke and the Horton Township. Descendants live there now. Hope this helps and that you might have some further details to offer...all the best, Will Dunlop.
