William Dunnigan of Orange co,N.C. had a son named ASHBY however certain clues point to him possibly being really ASHLEY.Can anyone confirm this? as some of these Dunnigans who m. into Carrington family and they m. Ashley.

Any and all help appreciated.I think ASHBY ASHLEY DUNNIGAN would have been b. in early 1700s.
There was also a brother to ASHBY named Sherrod and again this surname may have been a corrupted version of SHERWOOD?

Thanks Audre'
