New South African du Plessis puzzle

Gilberte Duplessis from Canada sent me an interesting scanned copy of the flyleaf of a book that came down his family.

Can anyone cast any light on it? It would seem as if Jean Prieur du Plessis was not the only du Plessis that came to South Africa from France.

The inscription reads:

“Kimberly SA Diamond Fields
July 3 11? 1888
This Book Presented to my Son
Daniel Petrus du Plessis
From his Father
?DP du Plessis
Son of DP du Plessis
Son of CJ du Plessis
Son of Jean Jose du Plessis
And
Cecilia Marsefeen du Plessis

Born France
1640
And Wed in Africa 1688 4 August”
