DURDEN, JOHNSON, BOBBITT, MOONEY - AL>MS>TX
Posted by: Cathy Garrett (ID *****7100) Date: July 03, 2002 at 10:51:40
  of 623

One of the earliest settlers in Perry County, AL, was John Johnson, who, along with David Durden, helped to form the town of Marion. The Durdens were from Tennessee, possibly this John Johnson was also. These Durdens and Johnsons may have been related. David Durden's mother was Sarah Bobbitt, wife of James Dearden. Sarah was the sister of Charity Bobbitt, who married Benjamin Johnson. The Bobbitt family appears to have been associated with our Johnson family as evidenced by the fact that my gggf Jeremiah Johnson's son-in-law John W. Mooney is buried in the Bobbitt Cemetery in Houston County, Texas, as are several others in the Mooney family. Two of John W. Mooney's sisters Mary and Martha marry Bobbitts, William Henry and James Jefferson respectively, who descend from this same Bobbitt ancestry. A large segment of the Durden, Bobbitt, and Mooney families eventually migrate to the same counties in East Texas as our Johnsons - Houston, Anderson, Trinity, Cherokee, Henderson, possibly others.

Would love to correspond with any descendants.
