You didn't say when your DURDENs were in Alabama; but, some years ago, my mother and I found the following:
23 Apr 1839 Mary DURDEN widow and relec of Stephen DURDEN late of Morgan Co, GA, dec'd, do sell unto Stephen I DURDEN s/o the sd Stephen DURDEN dec'd as afsd all my interest in sd estate of the lands, negroes, ready money, notes accounts, which by law of equity I may be entitled to as his wife, or as might fall to me in the general division of sd estate, in and for the sum of 52 hundred dollars to me in hand pd by the sd Stephen I. DURDEN the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledged, as a full compensation in sd estate & from me my heirs and assigns forever in fee simple. In testimony whereof I the sd Mary DURDEN widow & relict of Stephen DURDEN dec'd hath hereunto set my hand and seal this 23rd Apr 1839. Mary (her x mark) DURDEN. Wit: Wm. T. EVANS & J. C. REES. Rec'd of Stephen I. DURDEN five thousand two hundred dollars in full of all demands debts dues claims that I have in the estate of Stephen DURDEN late
of Morgan Co dec'd which might be due me as his wife as a childs part or do one in his said estate 23 Apr 1839. Mary (her X mark) DURDEN. Wit: Wm T. EVANS & J. C. REES. Personally came bef me John C. REES who being duly sworn deposeth & saith that his was a subscribing witness to the w/in instrument & that he saw William T. 26 Apr 1839 This Indenture made and entered into this the 15th Apr 1839 between Prudance DANIEL of the state (AL) and county (Russell Co) afsd of the one part, and S.I. DURDEN of the State of GA and County of Morgan of the other part.
Witnesseth that the sd Prudance DANIEL for and in consideration of the sum of $2500 to her in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained sold and conveyed and do by these presents grant bargain sell and convey for myself executors administrators and assigns unto S.I. DURDEN his heirs executors administrators and assigns unto S.I. DURDEN his heirs executors administrators and assigns all my right title and interest of the estate of Stephen DURDEN late of the State of GA and Co of Morgan dec'd held claimed or possessed of to have and to hold the afsd right and interes to the sd S.I. DURDEN his heirs and assigns to his use and behoof forever, And I do covenant with the sd S.I. DURDEN his heirs and assigns that I lawfully seized in fee simple of the afsd granted rights title and interest that they are free of all incumbrance that I have a good right to sell and convey the same to the sd S.I. DURDEN his heirs and assigns, and that I will warrant and defend the sd wrights title interest or claim to the sd S.I. DURDEN his heirs and assigns forever against the lawful claims and demand of all persons. In witness whereof the sd Prudence DANIEL have hereunto set her hand and seal day and date written. 26 Apr 1839 State of Alabama, Russell Co: I Jeremiah McKISSACK do hereby certify that on the 15th day of Apr 1839 the above named Prudence DANIEL personally appeared before me and acknowledged the above instrument to be her free act and deed. 8 Jan 1840 Know all whom it may concern that I, Stephen I. DURDEN of the county and state afsd for and in consideration of the sum of $2500 to me in hand paid bef the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which I hereby acknowledge have bargained sold released which are contained in the foregoing and within instrument [previous deed concerns Ann DURDEN MOONEY and husband Michael MOONEY] and Erasmus S.C. BABBITT and his wife Prudence BABBITT formerly Prudence DANIELL their heirs and assigns it being the interest which the sd Prudence is intrusted to from the estate of Stephen DURDEN late of sd county dec'd and from which I took from her the w/in deed of transfer on the 15th day of Apr 1839 and this I do for myself my heirs Executors, administrators and assigns. 8 Apr 1840 Know all men by these presents that I, Stephen I. DURDEN, for and in consideration of the sum of $2500 to and in hand paid by Michael MOONEY before the sealing and delivery of these for the receipts of which I hereby acknowledge have granted and bargained aliened and released and recoverly unto the sd Michael MOONEY, and his wife Ann MOONEY
all the property eight interest and things which are contained in the within deed of transfer made to me by the
sd MOONEY and his wife Ann on the 15th day of Apr 1838, it being the estate of Stephen DURDEN late of sd county dec'd,
giving to the sd MOONEY in right of his wife Ann MOONEY formerly Ann DURDEN and do by these presents grant sell relinguish and reconvey the same unto the sd Michael and Ann their heirs and assigns. I am trying to find parents and siblings of my ancestor Patience Durden who m 1831 Morgan Co GA James MacFarland COLEMAN--she named two of her sons Stephen Durden COLEMAN and John Durden COLEMAN, respectively.
