I have been tracing my wife's Durden family in Autauga County. Her grandfather was John Lewis Durden (1869-1949)His first wife was Sarah Jane Herrod. They had 6 kids --all girls. My wifes great-grandfather was James M Durden (1838-1896). He was wounded in the Civil War (6th Alabama Infantry). His wifes name was Elvira Rebecca Golson, and they had 4 kids. My wifes great-great-grandfather was Elias D Durden (b.about 1800 in Virgina). He came to Autauga County about 1837 or 38. My records show that they had 10 kids. In addition to James M, there were Benjamin Franklin, John W, Susan C, Mary, Henry C, Martha R, Rebecca, and Francis. Of these kids, Benjamin Franklin was the oldest and he was born about 1836 in Mississippi. All the others were born in Autauga County

My records show that Benjamin Franklin Durden married Levina F (____) and they had 7 kids. This data fits with the note posted by Patti Mitchell.

There is a family story that says that 3 brothers came to Autauga Co. about 1837. In addition to Elias D Durden, I suspect that Josiah was another brothers name, but as of now, I have no proof of this.

I am interested in gaining more Durden info. My e-mail address is:
