Hello Dale my name is Ray Durden and I think Jesse Durden was an ancestor of mine my great great great grandfather I believe.I have been trying to trace my family back andabout 10 or 12 years ago i stumbled on an article in the Miami Herald from th Tales of Old Florida column by a man of the name of Crankshaw.According to the article there was alot of debate as to whether Fla should secede from the Union (remember the year was 1860)Durden voiced the opinion of being against secession and it seems that some people did'nt take too kindly to his opinion so he was killed. There resulted a blood fued between the Durden kin and the people responsible.According to my research the Durden family was quite large in Calhoun County at that time.If you lookup the 1850 and 1860 census for Calhoun County youwill find Jesse Durden. My great grandfather was born in Perry Fla 1889 it would appear that the Durden family was driven out of Calhoun County scattered. Please if you find out more info on this matter E mail me
