for anyone who may also be interested in this family UPDATE
James H. smith was actually from Bibb county, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Smith. Apparently they did not move to Monroe county until after they married, in about 1865. He went to a church there, and actually, the 1870 census has them living in Upson county, near the Monroe county line. Mother Elizabeth and younger brother, Marion M. are living with the young family then. I believe the church was located in Monroe county.
Sarah Amanda MAY have been the daughter (Sarah A.) of Henry and Sarah S. Durden who lived in Twiggs county, 1850-1880. This family lived only a few miles south of Macon, not far from the Bibb county line. Henry MAY have been William Henry Durden, who died November 1889. (Atlanta Constitution "Macon Matters" column, Nov. 1889) Sarah S. MAY have been Sarah Spain Gentry, married to William Henry Durden in 1847. I have posted the census data under a message from Jean Harton, WILLIAM HENRY DURDEN M. SARAH SPAIN GENTRY...
