Dirt as a possible variation

I have an ancestor whose who was named as Susan Dirt on her daughter's death certificate. I am thinking it must be a misspelling of Durrette or the Cherokee surname Dirt Seller or Dirt Thrower. This line was in Georgia, posssibly Carroll County. Any information to clarify this would be appreciated.
