I am researching John H Durgin. He served in the 7th US Calvary and was likey at the Battle of Little Big Horn in the H Company, comanded by Frederick Benteen (The regiment that didnt get massacred). He also served in the Indian War Campaigns, and was part of the removal of Chief Joseph of the Nez Pierce.

After military service John Durgin was a rancher and lived in Chicago (1877), Ogden Utah (no date), Helena Montanta (1883), and Kent Washington (1893). The Helena newspaper say he was involved in horse racing (Stallion trotting) while he lived there.

John H Durgin was born around 1851 in Kentucky (or Indiana) and was the son of an Ahira Durgin, who was born in Rutland Vermont, and migrated to Indiana, Kentucky and settled in Missouri.

Does anyone know anything about Ahira Durgin? I found two Durgins who went to Cabot, Rutland Vermont. One was Samuel Durgin, the other was Abraham Durgin. It is likey Ahira Durgin was the son of one of these Durgins... Does anyone have any info about the Durgins in Cabot, Ruthland, Vermont?

John married Olive Triplett who was born in Bullitt Co, Kentcuky in 1852, her parents were Ajax Hedgeman Triplett a Methodist minister, and America Corum from Ohio.
