I too am a descendant of Charles Anderson Durham. My father, Henry O. Durham, Jr of Savannah, GA, did extensive research into the Durham family in the 1950s and 60s. I have looked at his notes but he cannot verify the parentage of Charles Durham. He believed that he was either the descendant or closely related to one of the following:
Mark Durham married Syllah Robertson of chatham County, NC on 10 Dec 1795. There is no further record of Mark other than his appearing as a witness on various deeds.
William Durham had a will proved in Warren County, NC in 1793. No other data attached to the will.
Thomas Durham executed a deed for a lot of land on 20 Aug 1789 to build a meeting house "in which to hold Publick Meetings and for to give Thanksgiving in." He married someone named Lucy and his will which was signed on 22 May 1903 and probated in August 1803 in Orange county, NC. this will named their children as:
My father verifies that Charles' will was probated 13 Jan 1834 in Pickens County, SC and one of his executors was Daniel, his younger brother. Daniel had recorded papers stating he was born in Virginia, hence the belief that Charles also came from Virginia.
His records show that Charles probably had a wife that died between 1790 and 1794 and that he married Mary Fortune in Warren County on 10 March 1794.
There is more information on Charles, but none on his parents. Daddy says the living members of the Durham family in Warren County, NC (and I suppose he means people living in the 1950s) advise that family legend says three brothers originally came over from England and settled in Virginia in the 18th century. they subsequently moved to North Carolina.
I hope this has been of some help.
