An interesting theory:
The death certificate of Martha (Burge) Childers in Pulaski County, Kentucky, show her parents as, Father: Drury Burge; and Mother: Mary Durham;
(Kentucky Death Records, 1852-1953)
Drury Burge married Mary "Polly" Shelton on 4 Oct 1822 in Stokes County, North Carolina; (North Carolina Marriage Collection, 1741-2004)
Austin Durham married Peny Shelton on 13 Jan 1823 Stokes County, North Carolina; Bondsman: Drury Burge; Witness: Matt R. Moore, C
(North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868)
Is the "Mary Durham" (listed as mother to Mary (Burge) Childers) actually "Mary Shelton" who married Drury Burge in 1822? Was Mary Durham married to a "Shelton" before she married Drury Burge? More research is needed to prove or disprove this theory.
I do believe there is a connection between the Durhams of Stokes County, NC and Pulaski County, Kentucky.
