Hi Marlys
I may be too late to respond to your question regarding Tiant or Tinte Durham, but I have a possible answer. My ggrandfather was Simeon Perry Durham, son of William T. Durham, Rockcastle County, KY. Simeon is listed in the 1880 Census of Plaquemine, Jessamine County, Ky on page 30 and 31 with his young wife, Catherine "Kitty" Turpin and his son William Green Durham (my grandfather) and his dtr. Mary. What is of interest to you is that he is listed as Tonte Durham and is living next door is his brother Joseph M. J. Durham with his wife Sallie E. Turpin, sister to Simeon's wife Catherine.

I am sure of this information because my mother knew both Simeon and Joseph and they spoke of living in Jessamine County where the Turpin girls were born. Catherine died young and Simeon moved back to Rockcastle County and remarried Mary S. Mullins in 1892.

Hope this helps.
