Calvin Clifford Durling Obit
HUDSON — Calvin C. Durling, age 82, of Hudson, Mich., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Tendercare Health Center in Adrian.
He was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Waldron, Mich., to Harold C. and Lottie M. (Emens) Durling. He married Zita Jones on Aug. 16, 1952, in Hudson, Mich., and she survives.
Calvin was a life-long member of Prattville Community Church where he served as Sunday School teacher, song leader, trustee, deacon and was a graduate of Waldron High School Class of 1943. He was a co-founder and first director of Hillsdale/Lenawee County Youth for Christ. Vocationally, he partnered for more than 40 years with his brother, Coe, in crop and dairy farming operation. His Christian commitment and personal integrity were an example to his family and all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Zita; sons, Dr. John (Lori) and their children, Taylor, AnnaLiese, Esther and Ellen of Perry, Mich., and David (Dorothy) and their son, Jonathan, of Hudson, Mich., and Castanhal, Brazil; daughter, Carol (David) McNeil of Grand Rapids, Mich., and their daughter, Rachel (Nick) Jones, and son, Kyle McNeil. Great-grandchildren are Nathan and Nia Jones. Calvin is also survived by siblings, Helen Whittern, Coe (Carolyn) and Donald (Sally), numerous nephews and nieces, and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Dorothy Gilbert and Lila Clark.
Funeral services for Calvin will be Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Prattville Community Church with David Durling and the Rev. Marty Bacalia officiating. Interment will follow in Prattville Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.
