Jim: I have just started reseach on a Sarah Winifred Durling (gggrandmother) in my family tree. My living relatives say she was from Bedford, PA (Westmoreland Co.) She married a James Patterson, who was supposed to have been born in Phila., but somehow met Sarah and then settled in Johnstown, Cambria Co., PA. On a death certificate (not hers or James) her last name was spelled "Dearling", but I don't give much credence to the spelling since it was given by my grandfather. James and Sarah had six children, Margaret, Elizabeth, Edwin Charles, Sarah, Grace, and Winifred Emma (my ggrandmother, born Aug 11, 1867). In searching the 1850 US Census for Westmoreland Co. the only possible match I could find was for a Alexander Durling, age 44, married to Elizabeth, 46, with children; Mary, 14; Luan(?), 12; Sarah, 9; William, 8; Margaret, 3. There was also a David Durling, age 30 living in the house. Haven't been able to prove that this Sarah is the one in my tree, but the name, age and location are accurate. I'm hoping that the "Winifred" name for Sarah and her Mother will help unravel this mystery. Don't know if this helps you or not, but I thought since your Durling wound up in Westmoreland Co., there might be a connection. If you think there is please let me know. Thanks, Charlie Going on the "fact" that Sarah was from Bedford
